Crafting Things

So, this weekend, I spent Thanksgiving with my cousins, where we made videos about how to make Turkeys out of paper cups and some household items. Which got me thinking about how important crafts are to me when I'm helping out. A lot of the work that I do is with people, which is why I like to have things to do with them.

One of the things that I can always do with people is crafts. I can always make things with them that both of us can cherish and enjoy for a long time. It's so much fun to look at something and know that you made it with someone else. To ensure that I always have a fun craft, I keep a craft book. In it, I keep all the crafts that I know how to make. For each craft, I write a list of materials needed to make the craft and a step-by-step set of instructions for my craft.

The above video is the instructional one that my cousin and I made. If you do a lot of work with people, you should keep a craft book and you can make this one the first craft. If not, think about making something so that you'll always have something to do when helping out.

Mother Teresa

Thinking of helping those in need, there is one person who stands up above all the rest. And that person is the woman whose name is in the title. Her work served more people than I could ever hope to help in my life time. She touched so many lives, even lives of those who never got to witness her work firsthand. In that group is myself.

When I think about helping people, she is the first person that comes to my mind. When I think about the impact I want to make, I wish I could model her. Even though I know that is next to impossible, it's a good goal to set. To touch as many lives as you possibly can and help as many people as there are to help.

Mother Teresa. An amazing woman and an inspiration to all.

Turkey Train

So, today my school did it's annual Thanksgiving event. The Turkey Train! On this day, we line up from one end of campus to the other and pass turkeys that we all bring to school that day to be collected and sent to families in need of a Thanksgiving turkey.

This made me think about all of the families who need those turkeys, and how special this must be for them, but also that I should be so thankful for what I have. Because not everyone can have turkeys for their Thanksgiving dinner, and I can. I also have a wonderful family, school, house and so much more that it would take me too much of this post to list out. Not everyone else can say that they have what I have, so it is so great to know that I can.

The point of this is, when helping out, it's important to be thankful for what you do have, yet not brag about it. Because you never know when it might be taken away from you. Thanksgiving is a very special time to celebrate all that you do have, so be sure to reflect on that as you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Holiday Projects

Hey everyone! So, the holidays are coming up, and you know what that means! Fun times galore for everyone! But, what about those people who are in dark times? What about those children who aren't going to have a good Christma?

That's something that's good about the holidays. It's such a good time to do something special for someone in need because it makes it all the more special for them. This time is so difficult for people when there aren't people to share it with them. But just one simple action can show people that there is someone who cares about them.

So, that's why I encourage everyone to start one special project this season. Because they can really help out people this season. For example, I am starting a project called Helping Hats, where I ma going to make as many hats as I can before Christmas, and invite friends over to help stitch with me. You can have friends help you do this too. It's fun and it's really helpful to people, and it can make people incredibly happy.

Helping Out Means...

So, here's something that's been eating away at me recently. I don't finish school in time to go on a mission trip to Denver with my youth group. I always felt like this was the perfect way to help out and learn so much about the world as well. And I was devastated when I learned I couldn't go.

But, then I thought about it, and realized that I don't need to travel to Denver to do good work. Sure, I'll miss all the fun and laughs, but that feeling of knowing that I'm doing good work for someone is still there, no matter where I'm doing the work.

That being said, doing work on your own ommunity is just as good as doing work anywhere else. No matter where you are, there is always someone in need very close to you. Whether that person needs a friend to comfort them through a difficult time, or whether they need food to last them for the next week, there is always something that you can do to make them feel more comfortable. I know that one thing I'm doing to help out around my community is hospice with my school. That is where we make cards and visit patients with terimal illnesses.

There's other things you can do. Such as work at foodbanks, or even organize a group to go and clean a park or neighborhood, you definitely have options.

Community service starts in your community, and you don't have to stray far to be able to do it.

And All the Hard Work Pays Off

So, here's just a post to show how helping people can reward you in multiple ways. Not only does it make you feel better about yourself, but there are also some advantages to helping out others that benefit you.

I'm not saying that every little good deed you do has something in it for you, but, there are plenty of deeds that do.

For example, this week, I went to my grandma's house, which we had spent so long cleaning, and remodeling, and making sure that everything was perfect to live in for her. We spent so much money, time and effort on this house, and all the hard work has finally paid off. TO watch her living there, and being happy where she is especially. Because we know that she is enjoying being home, and we can feel good about her being there, because we know the house is a lot nicer now.

But, whenever we have family visit-ins, we know that we can expect good things, and that the house is a place we can have huge amounts of fun and family time in. That's good for us, because we don't hav eto worry about dust and bugs and creaky floorboards when we go to visit.

That goes to show you. Hard work for someone else does pay off for you too.

Website Review: Dragcave Halloween 2011

So, I'll be reviewing this site:

http://dragcave.net/

Dragon Cave. Particularly the Halloween release which happened this year.

The Halloween festivities started off with the Leetle Trees changing to their Halloween form. This happened right before the Halloween dragons from years past were Able to breed, creating some want for those. Next, there was the Haunted House event.

This event was very fun and interesting. And it was a first for Dragon Cave in a way. Usually all the items just appear on the page after a set amount of time. But for this event you actually had to find all the items. When you did find all the items a Haunted House badge was given with the items when you click on it.

Next, there was the actual release. This year the Shadow Walkers were released.  When the release took place, there was the usual cave lag. But it wasn't too bad, as many people managed to grab eggs. The dragons turned out to be beautiful, and this holiday turned out to be wonderful on DC! Hopefully everyone enjoyed it. And if you weren't on DC, I would advise you to join us at Christmas for all the fun and festivities.

Was Shakespeare...Shakespeare?

So, this has been a very interesting topic for me in my English class. Did Shakespeare write all of the things that he was said to write? There is a theory that it is not Shakespeare who wrote them. The theory also states that a woman named Mary Sidney Herbert, whose family was very noble and so, she had the educational background, and the emotions to do it.

Her father and brother died at the period in which Shakespeare's plays indicated a drop in this area. This indicates that she might have written the play because her emotional status that she had. Also, the plays that Shakespeare was said to have very accurate depiction of things that nobles would know, that he wouldn't know, and also of women, and their feelings towards men, which would either indicate Shakespeare being homosexual or a woman.

So, how did all of this get pulled off? Well, Mary Sidney Herbert had a son, who would have been able to put Shakespeare's name in the credits due to his profession. He wouldn't want his mother to be the one who was credited for writing the plays because at this time, women were not supposed to be doing such things, and it could be very bad for their status as nobles. Shakespeare came across a great sum of money in this time period, and it is not known where or how he got it. Therefore, it is very plausible that he was paid to have his name on the paper. That way, the works could get published and not cause an uproar about the author.

I am not saying this is true. It is only a theory. However, I am curious to hear some of your theories on this subject too. Feel free to post them in the comments section.
